三沢川全域、五反田川全域並びに多摩川の羽村取水堰から下流と大師橋の間を調査地域にした。
中規模の河川である三沢川での採水地点は、黒川二ある終点から下流に向かって1ー1.5kmごとに多摩川の合流点までまた、この川に流れ込む下水溝と三沢川の合流点ごとにした。
とくに三沢川については、後日流速と川の断面積を実測し、流量を求め、同時に陰イオン界面活性剤の濃度を調べて、物質収支を算出するための予備調査をかねているので、できるだけ多くの調査地点をもとめた。多摩川についても、採水地点は本流と本流に合流する支流や下水道排管など合計45ケ所にした。
この河川も物質収支をもとめる。

We investigated all reaches of the Misawa and Gotanda rivers, and a part of the Tama River (between Hamura Intake Weir and Daishi Bridge ).

Water collection sites for the Misawa River, a medium-size river, were selected every 1-1.5 Km along the River from the end of the Kurogawa River to the meeting point with the Tama River, and at every intersection point of the Misawa River with sewers.

A few investigations were scheduled especially for the Misawa River : the measurement of the flow velocity and the cross-sectional area of the River to obtain its flow rate; and the assessment of anionic surfactant concentrations to determine a material balance. Since this study also served as a preliminary study for the above-mentioned investigations, as many investigation sites as possible were selected along the Misawa River . For the Tama River, also, as many as 45 collection sites were selected along the River, at the points where it meets with branch rivers and sewer tunnels. A material balance was also determined for the Tama River
