Research Summary |
The first purpose of this study was to restore the ancient landscape of the middle and lower Tama River basins accurately and in detail by illustrating on 1/5000 scale maps remains of the Jori system such as narrow water channels, roads, and ridges. (In the Jori system land was compartmentalized into rectangular blocks.) To achieve this, we carried out on-site surveys (observation, surface-geological investigation, and simple measurement) and analyzed aerial photographs, old maps, old survey maps, cadastral maps, and historical documents in comparison with data from on-site surveys. The second purpose was to use the restored data to partly understand the developmental history of alluvial plains based on water use in ancient times. |
