Summary

This study clarified the landscape structure of water channels formed by spring water as well as a proposal for its conservation and effective application plan.

In eight cities of the Tamagawa river basin, the water channels landscape was perceived by the existing vegetation, topography, and land-use around the water channel. In addition, characteristics of the water channel landscape that are preferred by citizens were clarified by questionnaire research.

The result shows the water channel landscape is formed by eight types of elements, for example, residentials and forest. Furthermore, target water channels were classified into four types based on these elements.

For the questionnaire research, the questionnaires were analyzed with correlation analysis and factor analysis. The analysis results suggested that the preferred water channel landscape by people has properly managed vegetation, visible water surfaces, and an open and bright atmosphere.
