Summary

In order to understand the microbial composition of the Tamagawa-River water, we performed 16S rRNA analysis which is culture-independent strategy for the examination of microbial community members.

Based on this research, we aimed to obtain novel information for the environmental conservation and improvement of Tamagawa-River through understanding the microbial distributions and their relationships to the water quality.

Our preliminary examination in 2015 suggested that the microbial composition of tributary stream have a big impact on that of main stream, Tamagawa-River.

Therefore, in 2017, we set eight sampling stations including two stations at tributary streams, Hiraigawa- and Akikawa-Rivers, before the confluence with Tamagawa-River and analyzed the microbial compositions of each station to understand the influence of the tributary streams to the main stream.

In 2018, we focused on the seasonal changes of two main bacterial phyla, Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes, and examined the relation between microbes and two key environmental factors, seasonal temperature changes and pollution load of the river water.
