東京都内の各地では、これまでにフクロウの生息が確認されてきたが、どんな場所どの程度生息しているかについては具体的な調査は実施されていなかった。

そのため、筆者らは、多摩川流域の都内及び神奈川におけるフクロウの生息分布を明らかにし、東京都内における希少種の保護に取り組むうえでの基礎的な情報を得ることを目的として、2019年度及び2020年度に調査を実施した。

調査は多摩川流域における3次メッシュのうちからランダムサンプリングによって109の調査対象メッシュを選択し、コールバック法を用いてフクロウの生息状況について調査を実施した。

調査の結果、29メッシュにおいてフクロウの生息を確認した。

調査地のメッシュを、山地、丘陵地、市街地の3つに区分したところ、山地では37メッシュ中10メッシュで、丘陵地では24メッシュ中13メッシュ、市街地は28メッシュ中6メッシュで、フクロウの生息が確認された。

なお、23区内に該当するメッシュでは、フクロウの生息は確認されていない。

In various areas of Tokyo, the inhabitation of owls has been confirmed, but their actual status has not yet been studied, such as their whereabouts and numbers.

In order to shed light on this issue, the authors conducted a survey in FY2019 and FY2020 to find out the inhabitation distribution of owls in the Tama River Basin, both in Tokyo and Kanagawa, which aimed to provide basic data needed for protecting the rare species in Tokyo.

We selected 109 standard grid squares (third-order grid unit) to investigate using random sampling from grid squares in the Tama River Basin, and used the callback method to determine the inhabitation status of owls in Tama River Basin.

Through the study, we were able to confirm inhabitation of owls in 29 grid squares.

Categorizing the surveyed grids into mountains, hills, and urban areas, the inhabitation of owls was confirmed in 10 out of 37 squares among mountains, 13 out of 24 in hills, and 6 out of 28 in urban areas.

It should be noted that among the grids in the 23 Wards of Tokyo, no owls were found.
