Summary

Located at the western part of Kanto Plain is Musashino Plateau forming on the alluvial fan of Tama River. Southern edge of Musashino surface and Tachikawa surface, both constituting Musashino Plateau, are divided by Kokubunji Cliff line. At the edge of Musashino Plateau, Yato (erosional wetland valley) with springs are often observed. Yato topography which had contributed to the agricultural style with cycling system has almost disappeared. Therefore the Jindai farm is precious of its Yato topography and remaining agricultural style with cycling system. Soil survey has been carried out as a part of environmental survey of the Jindai farm. At the upper part of the slope, development of Kuroboku soil on Tachikawa loam formation. The black surface soil was 100cm at the upper part of the slope and 110 cm at the middle part of the slope, indicating colluvial surface soil development at the middle part of the slope. At the lower part of the slope, weathered gravels of Musashino Plateau were observed in the subsoil. Although the soil is under wet condition, gley characteristic was not shown and it was considered that Teitai-suiseido (gleysol) with pseudo-gley characteristic has developed at the lower part of the slope.
