Research Summary |
To evaluate of the genetic diversity and structure of sika deer (Cervus nippon) in Kanto region, we used mitochondrial DNA D-loop region, cytochrome b gene polymorphisms and 10 microsatellite markers. We collected samples from seven prefectures (Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Nagano, Yamanashi, Tochigi and Aichi). The expected heterozygosity showed moderate levels in these areas. However, genetic structure analysis showed that the Kanagawa population was differentiated from the other populations. This is presumably related to a genetic bottleneck occurred to the Kanagawa population in the 1950s. |
