Summary

We published 500 copies of “Wild Birds Counted in the Asa River Basin III” (A4, 202 pages) in December 2016. This publication contained the following:

・Details of changes in the number of wild birds identified from periodic counts over approximately 30 years;

・Analysis for each separate count course; and

・An overview of wild bird surveys covering 17 other topics and findings from an analysis of the results.

As well as announcing the publication in the mass media, we distributed 400 copies to recipients including the National Diet Library, Tokyo Metropolitan Library, regional and university libraries, relevant government offices, experimental research institutes, groups and individuals with an interest in wild birds, and conservation groups. We received a great deal of positive feedback and many inquiries about this booklet.

(We held the Hachioji-Hino Wild Birds Exhibition on September 23-28 at Hachioji College Community Center. The exhibits at the Wild Birds Exhibition included panels summarizing the content of the aforementioned booklet, pictures drawn by students from supporting elementary schools, photographs of wild birds taken by members of the group, and carvings. In addition, we held workshops on making wild bird brooches and showed a PR DVD about bird-watching. The Wild Birds Exhibition was attended by approximately 900 people, including the Mayor of Hachioji, the chairperson of the city council, local citizens, and people with an interest in wild birds.
