Summary

In FY2013, three historical walking tours (First tour: Walk in the Tama River Headwaters and Learning Forest; Second tour: Tamagawa Aqueduct Karasuyama Water Channel and Roka Park; Third tour: Hino Irrigation Canal and Hino-juku) had about 10 participants each from both members and the general public. When creating new tour routes, starting with the field study, the following were studied: the water diversions of the Tama River Aqueduct (such as the Kokubunji Water Channel and Ogawa Water Channel) and the small rivers flowing in the city (such as the Furukawa River and Udagawa River). We also looked into low head hydro power as a new method for irrigation and river water usage.

Continuing into FY2014, we will implement historical walking tours with the Civil Society and continue to hold meetings to study the history and climate of the Tama River Aqueduct area from the viewpoint of residents (The first tour is planned in July for the Tama River Aqueduct dam, the Tamura Water Channel and the Shibasaki Water Channel). In addition, we plan to hold a lecture series to study lifestyles and water in Musashino. In the lecture series, in addition to utilizing the 2013 studies, we want to go beyond simple historical walking tours to those that take into account utilization of new parks, ways to preserve nature, low head hydro power, etc.
