Summary

Riverbank plants along the Tama River are diminishing extensively over the past few decades. As far as I know, there has not been any concrete research done on the phenomena on a case by case basis covering the entire Tama River basin (except for the upstream of the Hikawa River, Okutama Town). Thus we decided to investigate it ourselves using our 45 years of experience as the Group for Protecting the Nature of the Tama River. We surveyed 8 species, exceeding the initial target of 5 species. They are Aster kantoensis, Ixeris tamagawaensis, Chamaecrista nomame, Artemisia capillaries, Potentilla chinensis, Potentilla nipponica, Dianthus sperbus var. longicalycinus, and Anaphalis margaritacea subsp. yedoensis. While the details of the survey results can be found in our report, here we will just introduce the numerical data we obtained: approx. 500 Dianthus sperbus var. longicalycinus, approx. 15,000 Potentilla chinensis, approx. 2,000 Potentilla nipponica, approx. 4,500 Chamaecrista nomame, approx. 2 Anaphalis margaritacea subsp. yedoensis, approx. 1,800 Aster kantoensis (approx. 50,000 in Nagata area), approx. 50,000 Ixeris tamagawaensis, and approx. 1,500 Artemisia capillaries.

Our survey report is not disclosed for the purpose of protecting endangered species.
