Research Summary |
The Shinagawa irrigation network was originally developed to provide water for the garden pond at the Edo villa of the Hosokawa family, rulers of Kumamoto Domain, but within a few years, it was being used to irrigate agricultural land. Water continued to flow through its channels until the early 1950s. With the subsequent conversion of agricultural land into residential land, use of this network of waterways came to an end. 1) Gathering and deciphering documents concerning changes over the course of its history.
