１）念願の新しい多摩川源流（流域）情報マップが、平成25年9月1日に公開された。この事業は、平成16年度の国土施策創発調査（国交省・環境省・林野庁）の源流再生・流域単位の国土の保全と管理に関する調査で打ち出された源流可視化プロジェクトが大元になっている。

２）内閣府の「地方の元気再生事業」（平成20～21年度実施）において小菅村と多摩川源流研究所が源流からの情報発信活動として多摩川流域を網羅した１／25000基盤地図データーベースシステムを作りこの事業を開始した。平成24年1月にWeｂGISを一旦公開する事が出来たが、アクセスできないという致命的な欠陥が発覚し、システムの再構築に取りかかり、今回の公開に至ったものである。

３）今回の多摩川源流（流域）情報マップは、トップページに事業の目的が簡潔に示されており、さらにサイトの内容が1．多摩川源流・流域情報、２．小菅村の地名とその由来、３．とうきゅう環境財団研究成果、４．多摩川の植物・お魚図鑑、５。多摩川流域水質情報、6．水辺の楽校活動情報など、源流を中心に流域全体で取り組まれている環境保全活動の内容とそのデータを６分野に集約して明示し、自分の知りたい情報を入手できるシステムになっている。

1) The long-sought, new Tama River Headwaters (Basin) Information Map website was finally unveiled on September 1, 2013. This project has its foundation in the Headwaters Visualization Project brought forth from a study concerning the headwaters regeneration and conservation and management of national lands by basins in the FY 2004 National Land Policy Emergence Research (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of the Environment and Forestry Agency).

2) Kosuge Village and the Tama River Headwaters Institute began this project under the “Community Revitalization Program” (implemented in FY 2008–2009) of the Cabinet Office. The project created a 1/25000 base map database system covering the entire Tama River basin as an activity to disseminate information from the headwaters. In January 2012, the WebGIS was temporarily rolled out, but a fatal flaw was discovered that denied access, and the system was reconstructed leading to the current unveiling.

3) The current Tama River Headwaters (Basin) Information Map website places its purpose on the top page, and summarizes and describes the content and data of environmental conservation activities involving the entire basin focusing on the headwaters, in the following six areas: 1. Tama River headwaters/basin information; 2. Kosuge Village geographic names and their origins; 3. Results of The Tokyu Foundation for Better Environment research study; 4. Illustrated guide for plants and fish in the Tama River; 5. Tama River basin water quality information; and 6. Information on the Riverside Fun School Project. The website is constructed to allow users to access their desired information.
